Pierre Nord , actually André Léon Brouillard , (born April 15, 1900 in Le Cateau-Cambrésis , Département Nord , † December 9, 1985 in Monaco ) was a French resistance fighter and writer.

Life

Pierre Nord was born the son of a coal carrier. In the First World War , Nord fought against the German military at the age of 16. Near Saint-Quentin ( Département Aisne ) he fell into German captivity and was sentenced to death after a short trial. Due to his youth he was later pardoned and survived the war.

Between 1920 and 1922, Nord attended the Saint-Cyr military school and in 1932/34 the École Militaire in Paris . He then became a student at the École libre des sciences politiques .

Then Nord worked for the French secret service. In addition to various pseudonyms , he also repeatedly used "Pierre Nord", under which he was also successful as a writer. In 1939 he was head of the espionage and counter-espionage department. After the occupation of France in World War II , Nord was captured by the Germans in 1940. However, he escaped to Rennes after a few weeks . He joined the resistance movement there and distinguished himself by a number of bold undertakings. in November 1942 he barely escaped arrest. After that day he withdrew completely and was solely concerned with planning protective and defensive measures against bomb attacks. He also wrote his first crime and adventure novels.

In 1946, Nord left the army and devoted himself to writing. In 1957, Nord resigned all offices and duties and retired into private life. He settled in Monaco, where he died on December 9, 1985 at the age of 85.
