Pierre d'Aigrefeuille (* in La Font in the Diocese of Limoges , † June 16, 1371 in Avignon ) was a French cleric. He was successively Bishop of Tulle , Bishop of Vabres , Bishop of Clermont , Bishop of Uzès , Bishop of Mende and finally Bishop of Avignon .

Life

Pierre d'Aigrefeuille was the son of Guillaume d'Aigrefeuille, knight, and Aigline de Tudeils. He had several siblings: Guillaume , first cardinal of the family, Raymond, Bishop of Rodez , Faydit , Cardinal, Bernard, Bishop of Viviers , Aymar d'Aigrefeuille , Marshal of the Papal Court in Avignon, Étienne, Abbot of La Chaise-Dieu , Éléonore who married Bertrand de Vayrac, Florence, abbess of Elnon ( Rouergue ) and Nonenque , Marguerite, who married Bertrand de Saillac, and Raymonde, who was a nun at the Sainte-Marie de la Règle convent in Limoges .

At first he was a Benedictine monk in the Sainte-Martin monastery in Tulle , then provost of Marc-la-Tour and Cellerar at the cathedral in Tulle .

Abbot of Saint-Jean d'Angély and La Chaise-Dieu

Since September 20, 1339 he was dean of Rieupeyroux , and was on February 5, 1343 by his uncle, Pope Clement VI. appointed Abbot of Saint-Jean-d'Angély . By a bull dated March 2, 1345 he received the office of Abbot of La Chaise-Dieu , which he took up on December 11, 1346.

An extraordinary episcopal career

On February 19, 1347 he was Bishop of Tulle, on October 24, 1347 Bishop of Vabres, on February 17, 1349 Bishop of Clermont and on February 8, 1357 Bishop of Uzès. On August 11, 1366 he received the diocese of Mende before he was appointed Bishop of Avignon by Pope Urban V in 1368 . He did not take up this office until September 17, 1369. He died on June 16, 1371 in Avignon.

Pierre d'Aigrefeuille resided most of the time in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon in the Bastide de Réalpanier, his livery cardinalice .
