Pierre de la Cave

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pierre de la Cave (born December 24, 1605 , † May 8, 1679 in Pillau ) was a major general in Brandenburg and governor of the fortress of Pillau . He was also a secret warrior, chamberlain and knight of the Order of St. Michael and heir to Didlacken (1938–1946: Dittlacken, today in Russian: Telmanowo).

Life

His father was the French nobleman Pierre de la Cave, Lord of Glory Cavehaute , his mother was Madelon de Wausin. Both came from the old nobility. The son left France like many others because of religion and came to Kurbrandenburg.

In 1631 he became an ensign in the elector's bodyguard in the company of Konrad von Burgsdorff . On March 24, 1637, Elector Georg Wilhelm (Brandenburg) appointed him Rittmeister and Substantial Master. On December 20, 1640 he was appointed stable master by Friedrich Wilhelm (Brandenburg) . In 1642 he was commissioned to set up a personal company of 202 men in Königsberg and was appointed its captain . Around 1650 he succeeded Otto Wilhelm von Podewils as commander and governor of Pillau. On March 1, 1652, he became captain of the electoral guard, which had 300 men at that time. That brought him 100 thalers a month. After Podewil's death in 1657, he took over his regiment, which later became part of the Prussian Regiment No. 14 . On August 13, 1669, the elector appointed him major general.

When the Swedes threatened the fortress Pillau in the Second Northern War , he had all the forests in the area cut down. This led to the whole area being silted up. Afforestation only began in 1793, as the sand even threatened the harbor.

De la Cave was buried in Didlacken Church - which he had donated in 1665. His body mummified. During the siege of Pillau by the French, the sarcophagus was damaged by a cannonball. The mummy stayed there until 1945 and is now lost.
