Key point in the "Recreation" route |
The Pik Leibniz is a 5797 m high mountain in the border area between Kyrgyzstan and the People's Republic of China , near the border with Tajikistan .
It is located about 30 km south of the Kyrgyz border station Irkeschtam at the southern end of the Nura river valley in the north-eastern part of the Pamir Mountains in the Irkeschtam ridge . It was first climbed on September 12, 2009 by Oleg Turarev and Alexios Passalidis (an hour later a second rope team reached the summit). The first to climb named the mountain after the German polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz .
First ascent
As the mountain lay in the closed border area between the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China for a long time, a touristic inspection was not possible for a long time. The successful expedition of 2009 was prepared with the support of the DAV section AlpinClub Hanover since 2007 and was mentioned in the press after its successful conclusion.
route
The route of the first ascent runs over the north shoulder of the mountain and was called recovery . In the upper area, sections with ice and rock had to be climbed at an incline of 60 °, exposed in places and only provided with a thin layer of ice (in September 2009). The difficulties are with "D / TD" ( difficile / très difficile ) on the SAC high-touring scale .
