Pikmin 3 ( Japanese original title: ピ ク ミ ン 3 , Hepburn : Pikumin Surī ) is a strategy game for Nintendo s Wii U game console . The game was first announced at the E3 game fair in Los Angeles in 2008 and was mainly developed by Nintendo EAD. It is the third title in the Pikmin series and the direct successor to Pikmin 2 , which originally appeared on the Nintendo GameCube . Pikmin 3 was released in Europe on July 26, 2013 exclusively for the Wii U.
On August 5th, 2020 it was confirmed that Pikmin 3 will be re-released under the name "Pikmin 3 Deluxe" for the Nintendo Switch and will be released on October 30th, 2020.
action
The three astronauts Charlie, Alph and Brittany are sent off from their home planet Koppai to find food due to a food shortage. You can find a sufficient food donor on planet PNF-404 (an allusion to HTTP status code 404 - Page Not Found ). Shortly before they land, their spaceship, the Drake, gets out of control and the three spacemen are spread across the planet. The player sees Alph waking up on the alien planet and discovering the red Pikmin who will soon join him. In the different worlds there are fruits that have to be collected. The game is divided into days, each lasting 13 minutes. There are 66 fruits in the game that are sufficient for 100 game days.
Multiplayer modes
There are two different multiplayer modes available in Pikmin 3 , each of which can be played by two players.
Bingo duel
In the bingo duel, two players try to collect fruits and defeated opponents to complete a row on a bingo card. A total of twelve playable world maps are available. These are partly generated randomly, which is why there are always different fruits and opponents in the game.
Mission mode
There are three different types of challenges available in the mission mode: collecting fruits, defeating creatures and defeating bosses in a given time. These missions can be unlocked over time. For each challenge, the player receives a certain number of points and medals. With these he can compare himself to other players on an online ranking list. This mode can also be played alone.
Reviews
The game was rated mostly good to excellent. Above all, attention is drawn to the good integration of the Wii-U gamepad and the good implementation of the multiplayer mode. One point of criticism is that there is no online mode. The Official Nintendo Magazine gave the title a 90% rating.
successor
In September 2015 it was confirmed that a successor is in development.
