Pinchas Burstein
Pinchas Burstein , known as Maryan , (born January 1, 1927 in Nowy Sącz , Lesser Poland , † June 15, 1977 in New York City ) was a Polish painter .
Life
During the Second World War , Burstein and his family were deported to Auschwitz . He survived the Nazi era as one of his family. After the liberation he emigrated to Jerusalem and began studying graphic design. He lost a leg in an accident. In 1950 Burstein moved to Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts . In 1962 he settled in New York and took American citizenship. From this time he began to sign his works with the pseudonym Maryan or Maryan S. Maryan . In 1977 Burstein died of a heart attack in New York . He found his final resting place in the Montparnasse cemetery in Paris.
