The Pinel Point is a headland on the east coast of the Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 8 km northeast of Cape d'Ursel and marks the entrance to the Pampa Passage to the southwest .
Participants in the Belgica expedition (1897–1899), led by the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery , carried out an initial rough mapping. Aerial photos by Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. from 1956 to 1957 were used for mapping purposes in 1959. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the French psychiatrist Philippe Pinel (1745-1826), to whom the main features of the No restraint treatment concept go back.
