Pino sulla Sponda del Lago Maggiore , also Pino sulla Sponda orientale del Lago Maggiore, in the Lombard dialect Pin, is a hamlet founded by Regional Law no. 8 of 30 January 2014 to 4 February 2014 commune Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca in Italian province of Varese , Lombardy . The place is at an altitude of 289 mslm. Local saints are Quiricus and Julitta . Previously it formed its own municipality with 212 inhabitants (December 31, 2013) and an area of ​​7 km².

The village is located on a rocky promontory, the Sasso di Pino, on the east side of Lake Langensee , and borders Switzerland in the north (municipality of Gambarogno ). The groups Zenna, Monti di Pino, Alpe Cortiggia, Piano Volpera, Bersona, Mulinaccio, Alpe Tabia, Piano della Rogna and Alpe di Piero also belong to Pino.

The place has a small boat harbor and the beach Lido di Zenna, near the border with Switzerland.

history

The free commune of Pino was owned by the Counts of Seprio in the High Middle Ages and later came under the Milanese rule of the Visconti . They attached it to the territory of the Quattro Valli (four valleys) and gave it to the Rusca family as a fief in 1439 . In 1583 it became a fiefdom of the Marliani who kept their Podestà until 1600.

In the past the place lived on agriculture and forestry. From the turn of the century before last, Pino became a holiday resort, and some stately villas from around 1900 still characterize the village. Today the economy is based almost entirely on tourism .

In 2014 Pino, Maccagno and Veddasca merged to form the new municipality of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca .

Attractions

  • The parish church of S. Quirico e Giulitta is of Romanesque origin and was changed to Baroque style in the 16th century and around 1780 .
  • The church Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie near Zenna was built around 1600.
  • The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta chapel has been attested since the 13th century. The originally Romanesque facade has not been preserved.
  • The post office is located in a tower from the 13th century, the remains of a medieval fortification.
