Pipenzolat is the non-proprietary name (INN) of a quaternary ammonium compound , which belongs to the group of anticholinergics as a medicinal substance and is used as a spasmolytic in the gastrointestinal tract .
Chemically, it is pipenzolate bromide (trade name: Cholspas Pipenzolat ® , manufacturer: Dolorgiet ), an active ingredient that was patented by Lakeside in 1959 and is commercially available as a generic .
Extraction
The synthesis takes place starting from benzilic acid and 1-ethyl-3-chloropiperidine with bromomethane .
