The Pipistrel WATTsUP is a proof-of-concept electric aircraft built in Slovenia by Pipistrel . It is intended for flight training and is to be manufactured in series in the future.

The aircraft is based on Pipistrel Sinus and Virus and was shown for the first time on August 30, 2014 at the "Salon de Blois " airshow in France.

construction

The WATTsUP is a shoulder wing aircraft with a T- tail . The two seats are arranged side by side. The WATTsUP is driven by an 85 kW electric motor that weighs only 14 kg and was developed by Siemens . The maximum rate of climb should exceed 1,000 ft / min (= 5.1 m / s).

According to the manufacturer, the electric motor used is more powerful than a Rotax 912 . The batteries can be charged in one to two hours with the 380 V fast chargers that are also available; the charging process takes about six hours at a normal 230 V socket. A charge should allow about 1 hour of flight time including a 30 minute reserve. The windmill effect of the propeller should enable an energy recovery of up to 15% of the energy used for the climb during descent.

The introductory price should be just under 100,000 euros plus taxes.
