Pirhuani is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
Pirhuani is the central place of the canton Pirhuani in the municipality of San Lucas in the province of Nor Cinti . The village is located at an altitude of 2255 m on the right, eastern bank of the Río Molino Mayu, which flows over the Río Chakha Mayu to the Río Pilcomayo .
geography
Pirhuani lies between the Altiplano in the west and the lowlands in the east in one of the side valleys of the Bolivian Cordillera Central . The climate of the region is a distinct daytime climate , in which the temperature differences between day and night fluctuate more clearly than the average values between summer and winter.
The annual average temperature is 14 ° C (see Azurduy climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate between 10 ° C in June / July and 16 ° C in December / January. Annual precipitation is just under 550 mm, with a dry season and monthly values below 10 mm from May to August, and maximum values of 100 to 110 mm from December to February.
Transport network
Pirhuani is located at a distance of 357 kilometers by road south of Sucre , the capital of the department.
The Ruta 5 highway runs through Sucre and leads from the Cordillera Oriental across the Altiplano to the Chilean border. From Sucre, the road leads 169 kilometers in a south-westerly direction to Potosí , where it meets the north-south running Ruta 1 . From there it is another 122 kilometers on Ruta 1 to Padcoyo . From there, an unpaved road leads eastwards via Ocurí , Cinteño Tambo and Palacio Tambo to Laja Khasa . About twenty-five kilometers northeast of Laja Khasa, the road briefly exceeds the height of 4500 meters and falls back to about 4000 meters over the next six kilometers. After a total of 31 kilometers, a side street turns north to the Canchas Blancas settlement . A kilometer later, a side road branches off in a southerly direction and after 35 kilometers leads to Pirhuani .

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of San Lucas 98.6 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
