Piscanivirinae is a virus subfamily of the family Tobaniviridae within the order Nidovirales thatcontainsvarious fish viruses.
The subfamily is so far bigeneric with the two genera Bafinivirus and Oncotshavirus . Both genera contain rod-shaped (bacilliform) viruses with relatively large genomes, which are usually found in nidoviruses. Occasionally, strongly pleomorphic (e. B. spherical) virions observed.
The name is a typical siglum for virus taxonomy , which here probably refers to the host animals fish ( Latin pis ces ), the host species Blic ca bjoerkna of the virus species White bream virus (type of Bafinivirus ) and the superordinate order of the Ni doviruses.
