The Piz Tomül (also: Wissensteinhorn ) is a 2954 m high mountain in the Lepontine Alps in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland .
It stands east of Vals and shares the name with a whole range of other terrain elements: Tomülboda is located on the southern flank of the mountain , which is not a ground, but just a less steep slope. Further south of the Piz Tomül lies the Alp Tomül in the valley , where the high alp Chli Tomül is located further south of the valley . Alp Tomül serves the farmers from Flims as a summer pasture.
The pass of the same name lies in a south-south-east direction : The fact that the elevation on the opposite side of the pass is also called "Tomül", namely as Tomülgrat with the highest point at 2747 meters, is very unusual . In the north, on the other hand, after all these names had been used, there was no longer any further name; on the way to the Tällihorn the first somewhat deeper passage is called Rinderpirglückli . Nevertheless, there is still a Tomüllückli , which is not a transition, but a slightly less rugged point in the west ridge. This west ridge separates the two former municipal areas of Vals and St. Martin , the latter was a municipality with 31 inhabitants until the merger on January 1, 2015 with Vals. It was the last municipality in Switzerland to be electrified. The eastern part of Piz Tomül lies in the area of the former municipality of Safien , today Safiental . The areas of these communities extend to the summit.
The ascent is possible in summer for mountain hikers over the southeastern ridge, from the Tomülpass. There is no marked path. The mountain is also committed in winter.
