pizzeria
A pizzeria ( plural Italian pizzerias , dt. Pizzerias , also pizzerias ) is a restaurant whose specialty is the production and sale of pizza .
Italy
Probably the oldest still existing pizzeria in Naples is the Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba . Founded in 1738 as a catering facility for traveling traders, it was converted into a restaurant with tables, chairs and an upper floor in 1830.
In Italy, a pizzeria also usually means a shop where you can only order pizza (usually to take home). To distinguish, the term pizzeria ristorante is used for a restaurant that offers other dishes in addition to pizza.
Germany
Alongside the Balkan restaurants, pizzerias were the first restaurants to be introduced by guest workers and to establish themselves across the board in post-war Germany. The first pizzeria in Germany was the Sabbie di Capri, opened by Nicola di Camillo on March 24, 1952 in Würzburg . Later pizzas were also offered by Greek and especially Turkish restaurants.
United States
In the USA, the first pizzeria was opened by Gennaro Lombardi in New York City in 1905 . However, pizza did not become really popular in the USA until the 1950s.
delivery
In addition to the restaurant, many pizzerias operate a pizza service that delivers the dishes freshly prepared in a warming box.
Fast food
Towards the end of the 20th century, the concept of fast food found its way back into the area of pizza sales. In Italy, stalls called pizza al taglio (“ sliced pizza ”) were created where pizza was baked on large rectangular trays and sold in small pieces. Apart from tomatoes and cheese, these pizza pieces are rarely topped with more than two ingredients.
In the USA, chains like Pizza Hut developed , in Germany Call a Pizza etc.
