action

A research group led by Dr. Karen Fast discovers the possibility of looking into alien dimensions and parallel worlds with a device. During a demonstration of the experiment, in which Senator Jackson Crenshaw and several military personnel are present, an accident occurs and the entire presentation room is catapulted through a dimensional gate into a parallel world. While everyone present is passed out, Colonel Sam Synn wakes up and watches a cat-sized, unknown creature tear off an arm of one of those present and then flee. Synn can kill the creature and presents it to the group, after which he explains the rooms as a quarantine area that no one is allowed to leave. Senator Crenshaw defies the order and opens the exit that leads into a forest - and while he is looking around, he is attacked by a dinosaur-like creature and torn in two. Lex Michaels dies of a heart attack, the rest of the group barricades themselves and advises on how to proceed.

While exploring the forest near the research station, the scientists encounter well-known plant and fungus species, shortly afterwards the group is attacked again by the unknown creature. Private Jordan Reid is killed in this attack, the rest of the group save themselves with the exception of Lieutenant Rivers. This gets into a quicksand pit and has to be checked by Synn and Dr. Almost to be saved. The scientists explain that the only way back is via the dimensional viewer, which is defective and needs water to generate energy. In the meantime, businessman Al Icia and Josh Burk deal with the dead little animal and accidentally stab it, whereupon a jet of acid emerges and kills Icia. Dr. Jillian O'Hara comments on this with the sentence "Don't poke the alien".

The survivors go in search of water and find it in the form of a creek, but are repeatedly attacked by two monsters that have a nest nearby, and more people die. After seeing a tower some distance away that was clearly built, Dr. Almost from the others to look for intelligent beings there. Synn, Dr. O'Hara and her assistant Brian Murphy and Lieutenant Rivers are the last survivors to try to fill the machine with water and then discover that the cooling system is leaking. They want to use ammonia for repairs , which is found in the monsters' blood. Rivers and Murphy also die while trying, but Rivers manages to ignite a bomb impaled on a tree on a tooth of the monster and injure the monster. The second monster is lured away from the nest by Synn with the help of an egg and jumps after the egg, which Synn throws into a crater. Meanwhile, the injured monster attacks Dr. Almost at who had established that the tower also came from her dimension and was also transported into the new dimension. Colonel Synn and Dr. O'Hara can repair the device and flee the dimension with it. In the end, they supposedly end up in their original dimension, although this remains unclear.

Reviews

“Planet of the monsters is certainly not for someone who only watches blockbusters, the quality is too bad in all respects. In the area of the cheaply produced 'creature features', however, he will definitely reach his target group, because he manages to chat continuously for almost 90 minutes and he has quite a few, probably not entirely involuntary, laughs ready.
