Planetes

Planetes ( Japanese プ ラ ネ テ ス ) is a manga (comic) by Makoto Yukimura , which was also implemented as an anime . Planetes (ΠΛΑΝΗΤΕΣ) is the Greek word for wanderer, from which the word planet is derived. The manga is part of the science fiction genre .

action

In 2075, manned spaceflight will be part of everyday life. However, as a result, the pollution of Earth orbit by space debris has grown to such an extent that it poses a major threat to spaceships and space stations. Technora Corporation's debris removal department is considered a reservoir for the company's most incompetent employees. In reality, however, it is a highly specialized team of pilots and astronauts who are doing their best to rid space of junk and make it a safer place. Among them are Ai Tanabe, the youngest member of the troupe, and Hachirota "Hachimaki" Hoshino.

Publications

Planetes appeared from 2000 to 2004 in Seinen's Morning magazine by Kodansha and has been summarized in four volumes. The entire manga was published in German by Planet Manga . The fourth volume was divided into two volumes in Germany, as in the USA, where the manga was published by Tokyopop , because of the large number of pages.

Anime

The television series for the manga was produced in 26 episodes by the Sunrise studio and broadcast from October 2003 to April 2004 on the Japanese television station NHK .

In Germany, the French distribution company Beez Entertainment released the series from 2005 to 2006 on six DVDs of four to five episodes each. The series was dubbed on German television and broadcast from August 10, 2010 on the pay-TV channel Animax .

Awards

In 2002 Planetes received the Seiun Prize , the highest Japanese science fiction award, in the “Best Comic” category. At the International Comics Festival in Angoulême , Planetes received the 2004 award for the best scenario.
