Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Platja de sa Coma ('Sa Coma Beach') is the second longest sandy beach on the east coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located within the town of Sa Coma in the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar .

Location and description

Southern section of the beach

The Platja de sa Coma is part of the tourism -dominated Sa Coma. The beach is located between the Punta de n'Amer peninsula in the northeast and Cape sa Punteta in the south. The north-eastern 200 meters of the beach, east of Avenida de ses Palmeres , bordering the 199.88 hectare large nature area of particular value (Àrea d'especial natural interès - ANAI) of Punta de n'Amer , which also includes the local Rancho de sa coma heard. Behind the rest of the beach there are multi-storey buildings, mostly hotels.

Sa Coma beach is 890 meters long and up to 60 meters wide. It consists of fine sand that is cleaned daily during the season. The beach slopes gently into the sea, at a distance of 200 meters from the shore the water depth is around three meters. Occasionally, seaweed is washed up and removed from the managed beach sections. There are parasols on large parts of the beach and loungers can be rented. The rear edge of the beach consists of a low wall leading to a promenade in front of the buildings. On the northeast side of the beach there is still a bunker from the time of the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). It served to defend the island against the landing of the Republican troops.

Access

From the MA-4023 road between Cala Millor and Porto Cristo , Avinguda de ses Palmeres leads directly to the north side of Sa Coma beach. It ends there in a dead end at a parking lot. To the south, three more streets, Carrer Arboceres , Carrer Nespleres and Carrer Atzeroles lead from the village to Platja de sa Coma .
