Plattsounds is a music competition for amateur bands that has been taking place since 2011 . Young musicians between the ages of 15 and 30 from Lower Saxony are permitted; only their own songs may be played. Around ten bands or individual performers compete against each other with different musical styles. The competition is organized by several Lower Saxony regions and landscape associations and is intended to encourage and promote the use of the Low German language . Plattsounds is part of the “Platt is cool” image campaign.

Plattsounds combines modern music with Low German and aims to motivate young people between 15 and 30 years of age to deal with the language. The participating musicians have performed with rock , pop , punk , hip-hop , rap , metal , glam metal , stoner rock , rockabilly , acapella , electro-soul dance and psychedelic , among others . Each competition entry is sung in Low German. The respective landscapes and landscape associations as well as the Institute for Low German help with translations .

An expert jury from the fields of language, music and media will judge the entries.

The winning entry is automatically entered in the semifinals of the “Local Heroes Band Contest” in Lower Saxony of the regional rock working group.

In 2012, the 2011 winning band, “The Voodoolectric” from East Frisia , represented the Low German language in the European song contest for regional and minority languages ​​“Liet International” in Asturias, Spain. In 2014, “The Paintbox” from Winsen / Luhe in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, took part in “Liet International”.

The guest bands at Plattsounds have included De Fofftig Penns , Die Tüdelband and Gerrit Hoss .

Awards

The “Plattsounds” project was a finalist of the “NordWestAward” of Bremer Landesbank in 2011 and was awarded an image film.
