Platygyrium is a genus of moss from the order of the Hypnales .
features
The trunks are prostrate and more or less regularly pinnately branched. The stem and branch leaves are similar: straight or slightly curved. They are oval to oval-lanceolate and have a sharp tip. The leaf margin is turned back and has entire margins. The leaf veins are short and double, but can also be absent. The lamina cells are prosenchymatic. The leaf wing cells are square to rectangular.
The seta is smooth and red, the capsule is upright.
The genus often reproduces asexually through broken branches that are axillary.
Distribution and locations
The genus occurs in Europe, Asia, North and Central America.
