Platyla cryptomena is a type of land-living snail from the family of the Mulmnadeln (Aciculidae) in the order of the Architaenioglossa ("old bandworm").

features

The conical shells of Platyla cryptomena are 2.5 to 3.5 mm high and 0.8 to 1.0 mm wide. They have 5¼ to 6 moderately to well arched turns. The mouth rises a little at the penultimate turn. The height of the last turn is about half the total height. There is no edge or thread under the seam. When viewed from the front, the mouth is obliquely pear-shaped. The enlarged mouth rim shows a very small sinulus in the side view . The parietal callus is well developed, the angularis is clearly visible. The narrow umbilical callus runs along the parietal callus to the middle of the parietal margin. The reddish brown bulge on the neck is relatively wide and flattened. In the side view it is slightly raised in the middle and clearly limited to the rear. The housing is reddish brown to yellowish brown in color, the surface is very shiny.

Similar species

Platyla cryptomena differs from the beaded sludge needle ( Platyla callostoma ) by its somewhat smaller and slimmer housing. Platyla cryptomena differs in the shape of the neck bulge from the smooth sludge needle ( Platyla polita ) and Platyla dupuyi . The broad, flat neck bulge, which is very characteristic of Platyla cryptomena , is slimmer than that of the Plain Mulm Needle ( Platyla polita ) and smaller than that of Platyla dupuyi .

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The distribution area extends from the southern Eastern Pyrenees to the Cantabrian Mountains ( Santander province ). The species was found in the Gers department on the north side of the Pyrenees . It lives there in the litter of moist deciduous forests.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first described in 1877 by Alexandre Guillaume Léopold de Folin and Ferdinand Bérillon as Acme cryptomena . Today it is assigned to the genus Platyla .

Individual evidence

  1. The co-author of Alexandre Guillaume Léopold Marquis de Folin appears in only a few publications mostly without a first name as M. Bérillon. The M. stands for monsieur. Welter-Schultes leads him with E. Bérillon and suspects an identity with Edgar Bérillon, a French psychologist. Madeira et al. (2010) perform him with G. Bérillon, while Gittenberger & Kosten (1983 ) perform as F. Bérillon. In the membership lists and meeting reports of the Société des sciences et arts de Bayonne , this co-author almost always appears as Bérillon or M. Bérillon . In the list of members of the Society of January 1, 1877 , he is referred to as photographe à Bayonne . He is certainly not identical with Edgar Bérillon. The artist directory of the Musée d'Orsay includes the photographer Ferdinand Bérillon , who was active in Bayonne from 1863 to 1890. He is the sought-after co-author of the Marquis de Folin.
