Pleikard von Gemmingen († 1547)

Pleikard von Gemmingen (* around 1520; † January 28, 1547 in Bürg ) was an early representative of the Neckarzimmern / Bürg line of the barons of Gemmingen . He is said to have inherited the former monastery on the Ilgenberg near Höchstberg and is considered to be a possible builder of Presteneck Castle .

Life

He was a son of Eberhard von Gemmingen († 1572) from his first marriage in 1518 to Barbara von Wolfskehl († 1545). In 1535 he studied in Wittenberg and was awarded the pastry in Biebesheim by his father, who was the bailiff of the upper county of Katzenelnbogen . But he suddenly dropped out of his studies and moved with Emperor Charles V to Geldern , Gülch and Roermond . Later he fought on the side of the princes in the Schmalkaldic War , where he fell ill with a hot fever , of which he died in Burg in 1547. He was buried at the Kocher in Neuenstadt .

In the chronicle of the Schöntal Monastery , the Schöntal Prior Bartholomäus Kremer (1589–1661) reports that Pleikard von Gemmingen built the Presteneck Castle and the state of St. Ilgenburg (a former monastery site on the Ilgenberg near Höchstberg , owned by the Gemmingen since 1523, who abolished the monastery) would have inherited. There he would have given the old Aegidius Chapel to a farmer from Untergriesheim as an apartment. To what extent Kremer's statements about the castle construction in Presteneck are correct can hardly be said. Pleikard's father Eberhard certainly acquired property in Presteneck, but possibly only after Pleikard's death. Since Pleikard died young and without offspring, Presteneck came with the other goods initially in the joint management of the father and the brothers Eberhard (1527–1583), Hans Walther († 1591) and Reinhard (1532–1598). Ten years after the father's death, an inheritance was divided in 1582, in which Hans Walther received Presteneck. According to other sources, Hans Walther is considered to be the builder of today's castle.
