history

The oldest surviving mention of Biebesheim can be found in the 12th century in the Lorsch Codex . The place celebrated its 800 year old first mention in 2009 due to two documents from the Eberbach monastery. Mention in the historical documents took place under varied place names , so: Bubenesheim (around 1200), Bvbensheim (1276), villa Buebensheim (1297), Bubisheim (1358), Bibenshusen (1423), Byebeßheym (1493), Bibesen (1511) and Bobbesheim (1514). It is documented that there were noble and ecclesiastical landowners in the second half of the 14th century. So the Counts of Katzenelnbogen , the Lords of Frankenstein , the monasteries Eberbach , Lorsch and Heiligenberg as well as the cathedral chapter and the hospital in Mainz . In 1587 the Landgrave of Hesse , the Cathedral Chapter of Mainz, the St. Katharina Hospital in Mainz and the Hofheim Hospital are named as landowners .

To the north of Biebesheim lies the Lochheim desert , the oldest and first mention of which as uilla Locheim in Codex Laureshamensis in document 187, dated between October 9, 770 and October 8, 771 (3rd year of Charlemagne's reign) through the donation of a meadow is documented. In 1209 the church must have stood still, as the Cistercians were given permission to demolish it. After that the place was no longer mentioned.

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Biebesheim in 1829:

"Biebesheim (L. Bez. Dornberg) Lutheran parish village; 3 1 / 4  St. Dornberg, between the Rhine and the Modaubach located, has 176 houses and 1,172 inhabitants., Up to 6 Kath. 1 reform. and 41 Jews are all Lutheran, like a brave new church. - In this place, which was formerly called Bubenesheim , the Lorsch monastery was wealthy. Eberhard, Count von Katzenellenbogen enfeoffed, in 1401, Johann von Wolfskehlen with this village, and in 1473 Philipp, Count von Katzenellenbogen, took possession of the shares that the noble families of Stockheim and Hohenstein owned here. The church had three altars, which in ancient times the Lord von Wolfskehlen alone may have forgiven. The Counts of Katzenellenbogen received 13 of the church fee through purchase . Wolfskehlen's share in the patronage went to Eberhard von Gemmingen, who made him leasable from Hessen in 1535 until his descendants ceded him entirely to Hessen in 1577. In 1689 Biebesheim was partly burned by the French. The two outgoing places Nieder and Oberlochheim were in the district. "

On December 1, 1979, the municipality officially received the name addition on the Rhine .

In 1982 Hessische Industriemüll GmbH, today HIM GmbH , built a hazardous waste incineration plant. On May 6, 1986 there was an explosion in the facility due to a highly flammable gas-air mixture. The damage amounted to at least one million DM.

Constitution

Territorial Affiliation

Biebesheim was territorially incorporated into the following units:

Official system until 1821

In the early modern period, the functions of administration and jurisdiction were combined in the " office " at the lowest level . Biebesheim belonged to the Dornberg office from the early modern period until 1821 .

In 1803 the "Hofgericht Darmstadt" was set up for the Principality of Starkenburg . It was for civil litigation court of second instance for civil wonderful family law matters and criminal cases of first instance. The higher appeal court in Darmstadt was superordinate to this .

In 1821 an administrative reform was carried out in the Grand Duchy: the offices were dissolved, administrative districts were established for administrative tasks , and regional courts were established for jurisdiction.

Administration from 1821

From 1821 the Dornberg district council was responsible for the higher-level tasks of the administration of Biebesheim . In 1832 the administrative units were enlarged again and circles were created. This brought Biebesheim to the Groß-Gerau district. The provinces, the counties and the administrative districts of the Grand Duchy were abolished on July 31, 1848 and replaced by administrative districts, but this was reversed on May 12, 1852. As a result, Biebesheim belonged to the Darmstadt administrative district between 1848 and 1852 before the Groß-Gerau district was again responsible for the higher-level administration. The place remained there until today through all further administrative reforms.

Case law from 1821

The district court Großgerau was responsible for Biebesheim from 1821 , from 1839 the newly founded district court Gernsheim .

With the reform of the Reich judiciary, the lowest level of justice was renamed " District Court " with effect from October 1, 1879 . The district court of Gernsheim was now responsible for Biebesheim . Since its dissolution in 1934, the Groß-Gerau district court has been responsible for Biebesheim.

Substantive law

At the end of the 16th century, the first regent of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt, Georg I , arranged for the legal collection of Land Law of the Upper County of Katzenelnbogen , compiled by his Chancellor, Johann Kleinschmidt , to become legally binding there. She was in Biebesheim as a particular law , subsidiary supplemented by the Common Law , to the end of the 19th century. It was not until January 1, 1900, when the Civil Code , which was uniformly valid throughout the German Reich , that the old particular law was suspended.

Church and religion

The first evidence of the existence of a church comes from 1210 when an ecclesia is mentioned. As church patrons are Nicholas and Anna and Sebastian and Katharina and Peter and Erasmus called for individual altars. The church patronage has 1210 Kloster Eberbach held. In 1356 the lords of Wolfskehlen sold the patronage to von Katzenelnbogen. But by 1361 they had it back in their possession. In 1404 both are named as patron saints; two thirds the lords of Wolfskehlen, one third the counts of Katzenelnbogen.

Today's Evangelical Church was probably founded by the Lords of Wolfskehlen, as they were entitled to their income and the right to appoint pastors for a long time. After the Reformation was introduced in 1535, the congregation was taken over by an evangelical pastor and the chaplaincy was no longer occupied. During the Thirty Years War , the church burned to the ground on August 5, 1635, when imperial troops set fire to the village. A new church could only be consecrated on May 15, 1665. The new church in the Protestant Baroque style, which is still preserved today, was built on the same place and was handed over to its destination on November 7, 1773.

A Jewish synagogue existed from 1867 to 1938 . Community life was wiped out during the Nazi regime . The religious members fled to South Africa and the USA, among others:

The Catholic parish of St. Maria Goretti consists of the two localities of Biebesheim and Stockstadt am Rhein and was created after the Second World War mainly from expellees and refugees. The two churches “St. Maria Goretti "and" St. Mary - Queen of Peace “.

The Catholic deanery of Rüsselsheim of the Diocese of Mainz and the Protestant deanery of Ried of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau are responsible as church administrations for Biebesheim today .

coat of arms

Blazon : a silver horseshoe in red.

The basis for the coat of arms approved by the Minister of the Interior of the People's State of Hesse in 1926, which was designed by Wilhelm Hermann Diehl from Groß-Gerau, was the old court seal from 1546, which probably goes back to what is probably the largest stud in the entire Upper County of Katzenelnbogen, which existed in 1401. On August 16, 1979, the Interior Minister of the State of Hesse confirmed the coat of arms. Since then it has also been used in the community seal.
