The amount of precipitation is also relatively low; in the years 1901 to 2000 it was around 650 mm on average. This led to a more or less balanced value for the water balance (difference between the amount of precipitation and evaporation ), which was slightly negative (-99 to 0 mm) in the western half of the community and slightly positive (0 to 100 mm) in the eastern half. The mean duration of sunshine , on the other hand, is relatively high and averaged 1601 to 1650 hours between 1951 and 2000, and even up to 1700 hours in the southern municipality.

The municipality borders in the west on the district town of Groß-Gerau, in the north on the city of Mörfelden-Walldorf (both in the district of Groß-Gerau), in the east on the town of Weiterstadt and in the south on the city of Griesheim (both in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg ).
history
Early history
The area of today's Büttelborn has been settled since the Neolithic about 4,000 years ago.
Middle Ages and Early Modern Times
The oldest surviving mention comes from 1211. In it the place is called Butelbrunne . From 1257 the rule of the Counts von Katzenelnbogen over the place is documented. With the extinction of this house, Büttelborn came to the Landgraviate of Hesse in 1479 .
When the Landgraviate of Hesse was divided under the heirs of Philip the Magnanimous in 1567, Büttelborn came to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt . Even its first regent, Georg I , caused the collection of land law of the Upper County of Katzenelnbogen , compiled by his chancellor, Johann Kleinschmidt , to become legally binding there. She was in Büttelborn as a particular law , subsidiary supplemented by the Common Law , to the end of the 19th century. It was not until January 1, 1900, when the Civil Code , which was uniformly valid throughout the German Reich , that the old particular law was suspended.
In the Thirty Years War Büttelborn was sacked by the French in 1645. Before the war about 500 people lived in Büttelborn, after the end of 1648 there were only 50.
Modern times
In the early modern period, the functions of administration and jurisdiction were combined in the " office " at the lowest level . Biebesheim belonged to the Dornberg office from the early modern period until 1821 . In 1806 the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt became the Grand Duchy of Hessen . Here was the Dornberg office - and thus Büttelborn - in the Starkenburg province . In the course of the administrative reform of 1821, the old offices were dissolved, district councils were set up for administrative tasks and regional courts were set up for jurisdiction. The Dornberg district administration was now responsible for the higher-level administration in Büttelborn . The district court Großgerau was set up for the jurisdiction, which was renamed to " District Court " with the reform of the Reich judiciary and with effect from October 1, 1879 .
In 1858 Büttelborn had more than 1000 inhabitants for the first time and was known as the " Weißkrautgemeinde ", also because a sauerkraut factory was built in 1887 that lasted for 35 years.
After Hitler came to power , the freely elected municipal council in Büttelborn was replaced by people appointed by the NSDAP and street names were renamed in line with the Nazi ideology. Of the 33 Jewish families who lived in Büttelborn in 1933, only people belonging to the younger generation were able to escape the Holocaust by fleeing in good time. After the horrors of World War II , many people who had been evacuated from the surrounding cities returned there, but the population of Büttelborn continued to grow due to the reception of refugees and displaced persons .
Territorial reform
On 1 January 1977. Büttelborn in the wake of was municipal reform in Hesse powerful state law with the neighboring communities of small-Gerau and Worfelden under the name Büttelborn to a new community together . The administration is based in Büttelborn. Local districts according to the Hessian municipal code were not established.
Church and religion
The first evidence of the existence of a church comes from the year 1358 when a "capelle" was mentioned. In the historical documents there is a reference to a “ St. Jost chapel in front of the site” from 1557 . In 1557 "Jacob" was mentioned as the church patron . The church patronage was held in 1523 by the Landgraviate of Hesse and before that by the Counts of Katzenelnbogen.
Today's Protestant church was built in place of the late Gothic predecessor church at the end of the 15th century, and the nave was built from 1728 to 1729 under the direction of Friedrich Sonnemann.
