The Plohnbach is a right tributary of the Göltzsch in the Saxon Vogtland , Germany .
course
The Plohnbach rises east of Wildenau in the Kirchberg granite area . It is the largest tributary of the Göltzsch and the only flowing water of the Kirchberg granite area that drains westward and thus flows into the catchment area of the Saale . The brook runs through the Plohner Kleinkuppenland in a westerly direction. In the lower running section, the water-rich Plohnbach cuts through hard mica rock in a narrow valley. The Plohnbach flows into the Göltzsch not far from the stadium in Lengenfeld.
meaning
With I to II, the water quality of the Plohnbach is now high. In its course there are biotopes classified as valuable. Despite no longer regularly cultivated meadows, the spread of real meadowsweet in the narrow valley between Röthenbach and Abhorn indicates a high input of nutrients. But a species-rich wetland has been preserved in its floodplain northwest of Plohn.
Others
In the valley of the Plohnbach a small dam was built in 1890 above a factory to generate electrical energy. Further up the stream, in 1938 the union Vereinigung zu Leipzig built a processing plant for the wolframite ores extracted from the Pechtelsgrün wolframite mine. The ores were transported by cable car from Pechtelsgrün to the location of the processing plant. There the ores were processed using a wet mechanical process. In 1947, the facilities were confiscated by Wismut AG as reparations . Ore Mountains and Vogtland uranium ore were processed in the facilities until 1961 . The facilities were systematically expanded. An industrial sedimentation plant (IAA) was built by damming a neighboring valley , in which processing residues were stored. Due to the floods in the summer of 1954, the main dam of the IAA broke and 50,000 cubic meters of tailings with high levels of radionuclides and heavy metals were washed up to the pond 2 km away. The pond silted up and the Plohnbachaue was radioactively contaminated. Repairing the damage was not completed until 2011.
