Pnytagoras (King)
Pnytagoras , ancient Greek Πνυταγόρας († 332 / 331 v. Chr. ) Was a king of the city-state of Salamis in Cyprus . He came to power around 360 BC. BC overthrew his Persian-friendly half uncle Euagoras II .
After the seizure of power, he joined the uprising against the Persians under Artaxerxes III , which was started by King Tabnit of Sidon . on. He was besieged for a long time by Phokion and Euagoras II , after which he surrendered to the Persians. Nevertheless, he was surprisingly confirmed in his office and Euagoras was not reinstated.
After the Battle of Issus , Pnytagoras joined Alexander the Great . He took part in the siege of Tire , where he lost his flagship . After conquering the city, he received the city of Tamassos from the possession of Kitions . His son Nikokreon succeeded him in office. Another son was probably Nitaphon .
