The Poás is one of the volcanoes in Costa Rica .
geography
The volcano has a height of 2,708 meters and is located about 150 kilometers southeast of the Rincón de la Vieja in the Parque Nacional Volcán Poás . Among other things, coffee is grown on its flanks .
The Poás is home to two crater lakes . The better known northern and active crater has a diameter of a good 1500 meters, is around 300 meters deep and contains the Laguna Caliente , whose diameter is 365 meters. It is an acid lake with a pH of less than 1, making it one of the most acidic crater lakes in the world. Its caustic water is an intense turquoise blue. The other crater lake is named Botos . It is 14 meters deep and 400 meters in diameter. Both crater lakes are filled with rainwater.
tourism
The Poás is one of the tourist attractions of Costa Rica, as a well passable road leads almost to the edge of the crater. Due to an eruption in April 2017, access to and viewing of the crater was closed until September 2018. Today you can visit the crater in small, registered groups.
