The La Amistad National Park ( Spanish Parque Internacional La Amistad ) is located in the border region between the countries of Costa Rica and Panamá . Around 199,000 hectares of the park are in Costa Rica and 207,000 hectares in Panamá. The highest point in the national park is the 3549 m high Cerro Kamuk .

The national park consists mainly of rain and cloud forests . To date, over 3000 plant species have been identified in the park area. The park is home to 600 species of birds, more than 300 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 120 species of fish. It houses over 600 different orchids .

The park was created on the basis of a joint declaration of intent by the two presidents of Costa Rica and Panama in 1979. The Costa Rican part of the park was established in 1982 as a UNESCO biosphere reserve and in 1983, together with areas in the adjacent Talamanca mountain range, was included in the UNESCO list. World Heritage added. The Panamanian part was created in 1988 and was added to the World Heritage status in 1990 as an extension.
