The Rincón de la Vieja National Park around the active Rincón de la Vieja volcano in Costa Rica is one of the most diverse national parks in the country. The park offers a wide variety of biomes, from the moist tropical rainforest in the northeast of the country to the dry forest in the south, as well as numerous volcanic phenomena such as fumaroles or active mud volcanoes . It lies in the mountain range of the Cordillera Volcánica de Guanacaste. Its height ranges from approx. 700 to 1916 m .
It was founded on 16 November 1973. Since 1999, the Park as part of the Area de Conservación Guanacaste World Heritage of UNESCO .
