PocketBook Readers are manufactured by PocketBook International , a Switzerland ( Lugano ) based multinational company. The headquarters in the United States is located in Overland Park , in Kansas City in Kansas . The German subsidiary PocketBook Readers GmbH was founded in 2009 and is based in Radebeul, Saxony . The devices are manufactured by Foxconn in Taiwan.
PocketBook is one of the world's leading manufacturers of e-book readers. By August 2012, a total of 1.5 million devices had been produced and sold in more than 24 countries. PocketBooks are the most popular electronic reading devices in the successor states of the USSR and are among the five best-selling brands in the industry in Western Europe. The aim for Germany is 25% market share.
With bookland.com (formerly obreey.com ) the company operates an e-book store that also contains thousands of German e-books.
history
The "Ukrainian Printing Group" and "MOST Publishing House" founded the PocketBook brand in 2007 . The PocketBook's first international trade fair appearance was at the 2009 international radio exhibition .
The first PocketBook was launched in September 2008 in the Ukrainian and Russian markets. It was the PocketBook 301 . The PocketBook 360 ° was first sold in August 2009. Both models have been available on the German market since December 2, 2009. In February 2010 the 302 came onto the market, which also has a touchscreen and WLAN .
From November 2010, the PocketBook Pro 603 and 903 models will also be available in Germany , which can be operated with a corresponding pen on the inductive touchscreen, and the PocketBook Pro 602 and 902 models , which do not have a touchscreen. 2013: Pocketbook Touch Lux . Since June 2013 a 6 " e-ink reader with switchable LED front lighting has been available with the Pocketbook Touch Lux .
2013: PocketBook Color Lux . The 8 " PocketBook Color Lux is the first e-book reader with an e-ink color display.
2013: PocketBook Touch Lux 2 . The 6 " PocketBook Touch Lux 2 is the successor to the Touch Lux (internally also called 623). The working memory of the successor has been expanded from 128 MB to 256 MB. In addition, the Touch Lux 2 got a faster processor. The Touch Lux 2 (type designation 626) is delivered without the audio functions included in the previous PocketBooks.
2014: PocketBook Aqua . With the waterproof 6 " PocketBook Aqua , released in August 2014, PocketBook is the first manufacturer to have a waterproof and dustproof reader in its range. The system is touted as particularly open and is under the GPL license. After some initial difficulties, the developers made the source code and an SDK available for download. The exchange of the kernel for an open system is prevented by the use of cryptographic signatures.
