Podnemić ( Cyrillic : Поднемић) is a village in western Serbia , near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina .

Village name

Podnemić means in German "Under the Nemić". The name is derived from the fact that the village is located at the foot of Mount Nemić . One of the hamlets is called Bjele Vode (Weisswasser).

Geography and population

The village is located in the Ljubovija Opština , in the Okrug Mačva . The place had 367 inhabitants at the last census of 2011, while there were 420 inhabitants in 2002. According to the last three population statistics, the number of inhabitants continues to fall. 100% of the population are Serbs . Podnemić consists of 142 households.

The village is located on the banks of the Drina River , which forms the border with the neighboring country of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the west . Podnemić is located south of the municipal capital Ljubovija .

The local population is committed to the Serbian Orthodox Church . The Serbian Orthodox Trinity Monastery, founded in 2005, is located in the hamlet of Bjele Vode , which belongs to the village of Podnemić .

Attractions

Also in the hamlet of Bjele Vode opposite the Trinity Monastery, the Etno complex Ognjište has been under construction since 2000 . Among other things, it has an artificially created lake, restaurants, houses with overnight accommodation in the traditional architectural style of the region and viewpoints.

Builders of this complex and Ktitor (Founder) of Holy Trinity Monastery is a native of Podnemić businessman Karađorđe Ristanović with his family.

On the locality Kriva Drina (Crooked Drina) in the village, directly on the Drina river and on the road that connects Ljubovija with the town of Bajina Bašta , was founded in 2009 by the local community of Podnemić (MZ Podnemić) and with the blessing of the bishop of Eparchy Šabac Lavrentije (Trifunović) built a memorial complex or a memorial for the Serbian soldiers from Podrinje , the Drina division, the Balkan Wars , the Salonika Front and the entire First World War .
