Podo is a documentary by DEFA Studio for Documentaries directed by Peter Rocha from 1988 .
action
During a heavy metal concert by the Biest group we get to know Podo, whose real name is Frank. The next morning at 4:30 am he starts to work in a state- owned bakery. He is actually not a trained baker, but had to give up his learned profession as a skilled worker for telecommunications due to illness. That is why he started to work in a bakery, where his current deputy brigade leader Eginhard met him, who was employed there as a temporary worker. That was about two years ago, and on the very first day, Podo was two hours late for work. But he wanted to stop in this brigade anyway, because he was desperate because he had extended his medical certificate by two days himself. The work didn't appeal to him either, because he was mostly used as a jumper, which means he had to switch from the early to the night shift and vice versa. He felt pushed around and taken advantage of because he also had to take over the weekend shifts. For his demeanor and for the story with the health insurance certificate, he was really dressed down by his superior.
His colleague Eginhard, who was 20 years older than him, felt sorry for him in this situation because he was so helpless, he suspected a good core in Podo. But since he can also lend a hand, he took him to his production department and took on the sponsorship for him. But initially there are problems here too, as Podo is still often late, which leads to wage deduction. But Eginhard does not give up, picks him up from home if he has overslept and has long conversations with him to find out the causes of the oversleeping. But Eginhard can still learn something too, because he learns what kind of music Heavy Metal is and what problems affect the younger generation. Now Eginhard has applied for a qualification for Podo so that he can learn the trade of a baker. In a conversation Podo sometimes speaks of the friendship that has developed between the two of them and the older one has almost become a father for Podo today.

criticism
Volker Müller wrote in Neues Deutschland :
"Peter Rocha's baker's story 'Podo' conveyed a beautiful example of unconventional gathering of young and old with cheerful ease, the scenes certainly did not need the literary display in the text."
