Poet (horse)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poetin (1997 - December 13, 2005) was a dressage mare who won the 2003 World Young Dressage Horse Champion for 6-year-olds. It was sold for a record sum at the PSI auction in Ankum , Germany.

origin

Poetin was drawn from the Brandenburg State Stud and Neustadt / Dosse . She came from the bloodline of Sandro Hit , the winner of the 1999 World Championships Dressage for 6-year-olds and winner of the German Bundeschampionat . Her mother, Poetry, was a daughter of Brentano II , Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2003.

Dressage career

Poetin's dressage career was short and successful. As a three-year-old she won the Bundeschampionat of dressage horses under Heinz-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen. There she got a score of 9.0 for the building , an 8.5 for the walk , a 9.0 for the trot and a 9.0 for her good uphill canter. In 2002 she won the Bundeschampionat for five-year-old dressage horses again.

In 2003 she won the World Young Dressage Horse Championship for six-year-olds, where she received the exceptional mark of 10 for her trot.

owner

Following the championships, Poetin was sold at the 2003 PSI auction for the record sum of 2.5 million euros. The bids from ten interested parties started with 100,000 euros and ended with the bid for Peter and Patty van der Zwan from the De Keizershoeve stable in Kessel, Netherlands , and the ING Bank , who wanted to use Poetin as a broodmare. The hammer price was twice as high as the previous record of 2.8 million DM . As a result, financial disputes between the van der Zwans and ING Bank forced the couple to sell several of their horses. In order to avert the threatened sale of Poetin, they hid the mare. She was finally found on August 25, 2005 by the Dutch police in Germany, in a horse clinic in Kerken , where she was allegedly being treated for an irritation on her right front leg.

Poetin was brought back to Balkenschoten in Nijkerk, The Netherlands, and was sold by Cees Lubbers Auctioneers on September 1, 2005. Although she seemed cautious in walk, she still showed her brilliant trot, canter, and flying changes. Among the bidders was the Grand Prix rider Gina Capellmann-Lütkemeier , who stopped at 700,000 euros. The eight-year-old Brandenburg mare was finally sold to Xavier Marie, owner of the Haras de Hus stud in France, for 900,000 euros .

progeny

  • A Special Poetin (from Jazz ) is the first embryo transfer foal from Poetin. The black filly was sold at the auction of Cees Lubbers Auctioneers on September 1, 2005 and bought back by Peter van der Zwan through an agent for 138,000 euros, which is the highest price that a warmblood foal has ever fetched in an auction. A Special Poetin was inseminated by Totilas , but had a dead foal. The KWPN colt Hilton was only born from insemination with IPS Bon Bravour in 2012 .

Clones

Xavier Marie had a poet cloned to save her genetic makeup.

  • Poetin Z CL 1 is Poetin's first clone. The foal was born on March 30, 2007 and was raised on Haras de Hus. Out of the mating with Don Juan De Hus comes Dorian Gray de Hus , who achieved 5th place at the 2018 World Championships for young dressage horses.
  • Poetin Z CL 2 is Poetin's second clone and was born in 2007. With the help of Embyonentransfer, thirteen foals were raised from Poetin Z CL 2 between 2010 and 2017 .

death

On September 3, 2005, Poet was brought to her new home in Haras de Hus, Petit Mars. On arrival she already showed severe laminitis in both front hooves and could barely stand up. Despite immediate therapy, there was a risk of shoing and the mare had to be killed on December 12th.

In retrospect it was found that the mare had been treated with corticosteroids for the auction . Before the auction she wore therapeutic shoes and was only allowed to walk on soft ground because of a tendon damage. The steroids masked the lameness and could have been the trigger for the deer as this is a possible side effect. Presenting the horse in this condition at an auction and sending it on a ten-hour drive to France was not conducive to animal welfare. Xavier Marie sued ING Bank because the medication should have been disclosed, but lost the case.
