Pogonatum ,called Filzmützenmoose in German, is a genus of deciduous moss from the family Polytrichaceae . The German name Filzmützenmoos refers to the densely hairy hood (kalyptra) of the spore capsule.
features
Pogonatum species are diocesan . They have a persistent protonema . The medium-sized to vigorous plants are simple or branched. The leaves have a broad, chlorophyll-free sheath at the bottom and a narrower lanceolate spade part above. The leaf vein fills a large part of the leaf blade and is densely covered on the upper side with numerous longitudinal lamellae. The leaf margins are usually serrated or serrated.
The egg-shaped to short-cylindrical spore capsule without a developed pituitary gland (capsule neck) and without stomata has 32 (rarely 16) peristome teeth and a round, beaked lid. The cap- or bell-shaped kalyptra is densely hairy.
