Polangui is a municipality in the Albay Province of the Philippines . There is a regular rail link between Manila and Polangui, operated by the Philippine National Railways .
history
The community was originally called Binanuaan . It was founded by the monk Baltazar de la Magdalena, along with the baptism of five elderly residents. At that time the village had about 500 inhabitants. This village was located in a flat area and was exposed to flooding, so the residents of the village later moved to the current place of the village, which was higher up and therefore less exposed to the risk of flooding. The name of the municipality is derived from oyangi, the name of a tree species that was found in this area.
In 1654 the construction of a parish church began under the monk Juan Bautista, which was completed ten years later. In 1897 the photographer and resident of Polangui Camilo Jacob was executed along with other residents of Bicol . A year later, the Guardia Civil , led by Don Elias Angeles, mutinied against the Spaniards. This ended Spanish rule in the Bicol region .
Barangays
Polangui is politically divided into 44 barangays .
