action

Rita Köhler argues with her husband Heinz, from whom she has been separated for a long time, because, contrary to what has been agreed, she now wants to bring her child to her home. Former boxer Heinz beats Rita until she escapes the house. Outside, her former boyfriend Rolf is surprisingly waiting for her and invites her on a short trip to the Netherlands. Rita cannot take time off, because Herbert Pohl needs her in the bar. Here Rita is not only active as a waitress, but also sleeps with the customers for a fee, with her boss making money from the business. Rita and Rolf spend time together until he travels to the Netherlands. On his return, he catches Rita in a back room of the bar in flagranti with Norbert, his best friend and son of Herbert. Like all other suitors, he has to pay money for sex. Rita finds her behavior normal, especially since Herbert is not averse to an affair with her.

When there is another argument between Herbert and his jealous wife Ellen, Herbert drives away. After a while he comes back and Ellen secretly watches as Norbert drives away in Herbert's car. In front of Rita's house, meanwhile, a taxi driver observes how Heinz beats his still-wife Rita and then flees when he comes to her aid. A little later, Rita's neighbors, Meier, hear coming and going steps in the hallway, a short scramble and then only untypical silence. This prompts Grandpa Meier to check that his lodger Rita is okay. He finds Rita dead. Rolf sits next to her in shock.

Chief Commissioner Wolfgang Dillinger and Chief Commissioner Lehnert are called to the scene. Both can not stand each other and so it is a special pleasure for Lehnert to exclude Dillinger from the investigative work: Since Rolf is the son of his long-term partner, Dillinger is now considered biased. Dillinger takes vacation and starts investigations against Lehnert's will. He is always one step ahead of Lehnert and is ultimately imprisoned for several hours because of the risk of blackout. There are several possible perpetrators. Her husband was seen by witnesses beating Rita up. During the interrogation he says that Rita deserved it, despite her way of life, that she wanted to claim their son for herself. Herbert is considered a suspect, as he was driving the car at the approximate time of the crime. He says he just drove around. Although he wanted to see Rita, he turned back at her front door. His son Norbert was then secretly on the road with Herbert's car, which Ellen confesses to the investigators. He says he found Rita dead and left. This coincides with the neighbors' statement that several people went to Rita's apartment that evening. Nevertheless, Dillinger believes that he has found Rita's murderer in Norbert. Since Rolf protests his innocence, he is set free, but suspects that this only happened because Dillinger is with his mother. The three of them go on a trip to a lake shortly after their release from prison. The apparent family idyll breaks up when Rolf can no longer withstand the pressure. He admits that he was the murderer of Rita, because he couldn't stand having to share her with numerous men. He fends off his mother's attempts to silence him. A little later Lehnert appears and Rolf willingly allows himself to be led away.
