action

The parents of seven-year-old Tobias Sello want to get a divorce. The mother wants to keep it a secret from the son for as long as possible, but the sensitive child has known about the separation plans for some time and suffers from them. He cried out to his father several times. One day he reacts gruffly at school, throws his sandwiches in the school yard and roughly pushes a school friend away from him. He barely escapes a reprimand. In the afternoon, his parents found him dead in the apartment. The telephone receiver is not on the hook. Not far from the child is a bowl filled with water, in which hangs the dismantled cord of a shaver. Obviously, Tobias took his own life with the help of an electric shock. Chief Detective Günter Beck and Chief Detective Thomas Grawe begin investigations. Although they think suicide is unlikely at this age, they have no other explanation. After a long period of silence, the parents tell them about their intention to separate. Father Sello notes that his wife raised the boy far too strictly. Nobody spoke to Tobias on the phone on the day of the act. Nobody trusts the frightened boy to commit suicide.

One day a primary school class teacher notices that the pupil Anja seems scared and apathetic. During a conversation it turns out that Anja had received a call in which the caller asked her to undress. Otherwise, their parents will get into trouble, the man prophesied. Anja hung up quickly but didn't reveal herself to her parents out of shame. It becomes clear that an anonymous caller has come back into action, harassing women over the phone for a while. Now he seems to have shifted his field of action to children. By threatening her parents with a heavy fine, he persuades the girl Susanne Neuhaus to push her little brother Enrico out of the window. Since Susanne and Enrico hesitated for a long time to implement the caller's order, Enrico was caught in an improvised jumping mat by vigilant residents. He is hospitalized.

The caller Holger Lebrecht watched the reaction to his phone call from the phone booth and got drunk on the power he has over children. Holger Lebrecht still lives with his mother, who dominates him. He has just started a new job on the construction site, where he is humiliated by the crude, coarse demeanor of his colleagues. He is forced to undress while showering while laughing. Women reject him in the disco if he dares to speak to them. If he buys new things that make him look more elegant, his mother criticizes him. He finds emotional refuge only with his cat.

According to Susanne's description, the investigators know that the man is young. You can now also inform Tobias' parents that their son has fallen victim to a crime. In the earlier calls to women, Holger had called the women to a street in Berlin-Marzahn, where they supposedly could pick up a prize. The investigators suspect that the perpetrator chose a street that he could see from his apartment in order to enjoy the "defeat" of his victims. Investigators begin to observe the area around the street indicated at the time. Civil investigators take pictures of phone booths in which young people are talking on the phone.

One day Holger calls Sebastian Rietschel. As with Tobias, Holger asks him to carry out an experiment for Urania and at the end to dip the open cord of the razor into a bowl of water. When no more sound comes through the phone, Holger is satisfied. Sebastian has seen through the caller, however, and reports to the police. Shortly afterwards, Holger asks children who are playing about Sebastian and is furious when he hears that Sebastian is alive. He calls him again to make sure, but says he made the wrong number. Sebastian recognized the voice. The call was also recorded on cassette so that voice analysis can be carried out. Based on this analysis, the residents of the crime area are checked. After a narrow selection - adults under 30, single or living with their parents or criminal record - there are seven men left. Grawe calls her and recognizes Holger by his voice. He was also photographed several times by the civil investigators. However, the investigators do not have any solid evidence. You can enforce that a small number of public payphones are video-monitored and bugged.

On the following day, Holger is given notice of termination at work because of strolling around and poor work performance. He returns home in front of the investigators, but shortly thereafter goes to an unguarded phone booth. A civil investigator follows him, connected to Grawe and Beck via radio. A mobile recording vehicle also makes it to the telephone booth in time and films how Holger is now calling a boy. He begins to explain the planned “experiment” with electricity and water to him. The called party can be identified via an interception circuit. Although the words and pictures show that Holger is the wanted one, Beck hesitates with the order to arrest. When Holger got the boy to plug the cable into the water, Grawe intervened and gave the order to be arrested. Police break into the boy's apartment and prevent an accident. Holger is arrested. Grawe is shocked to find that he will no longer work with Beck. He admits that he has never gambled so high, but denies having endangered the boy's life for clear evidence. Grawe leaves and Beck is left alone.
