Polygonum idaeum is a species of the knotweed family(Polygonaceae).
features
Polygonum idaeum is a perennial perennial or shrub and reaches heights of 1 to 6, rarely up to 9 centimeters. The plant forms cushions and is bare. The rhizome is very strong, woody and up to 10 millimeters thick. The stems are unbranched. The leaves are blunt to rounded. The leaf veins are light and protruding on the underside of the leaf. The petiole is 0.5 to 2 millimeters long. The petals are protruding and measure 2 to 4.5 millimeters.
The flowering period extends from July to October.
Occurrence
Polygonum idaeum is endemic to Crete in the regional districts of Rethymno and Heraklion . The species grows on loamy soils in plateaus and sinkholes at altitudes of 1200 to 2200 meters.
