The Pont Ambroix or Pont d'Ambrussum is a bridge from the time of the Roman Empire in southern France . In the 1st century BC The structure built in the 4th century BC was part of the Via Domitia and led in the Provincia Narbonnensis in what is now the Occitanie region over the Vidourle river between Gallargues-le-Montueux in the Gard department and Villetelle in the Hérault department .

history

Originally the bridge had four arches; when it was placed under protection as a Monument historique in 1840, there were only two arches. Today only one arch protrudes from the middle of the river, the other collapsed during a flood of the Vidourle (so-called vidourlade ) in 1933.
