The Pont de la Coudette bridges the Gave de Pau in France Landes department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ) in southwestern France. It is part of the D29 départemental route , which connects Peyrehorade with Sorde-l'Abbaye , shortly before the Gave de Pau and Gave d'Oloron merge to form the Gaves Réunis . It stands on the north bank of the Gave de Pau on a foothill of the municipal area of Cauneille , the southern bank belongs to the area of Sorde-l'Abbaye.

description

The two-lane bridge is a total of 140 m long and approx. 9.5 m wide. The tied arch bridge has two large reinforced concrete arches with a span of 111 m and an arrow height of 17 m. Steel tie rods embedded in concrete beams on both sides of the carriageway absorb the horizontal forces of the arches. The arches are connected to the beams by concrete joints.

The steel suspension rods are arranged at an angle so that they are anchored close to each other in the concrete of the arch or the roadway girder at the top and bottom. The arches are stiffened by individual K-shaped wind bracing. The deck girder consists of a reinforced concrete T-beam with narrow longitudinal and transverse girders.

The superstructure rests on box-shaped pillars that are founded on bored piles and is connected to the road on both sides by a short plate.

The bridge was designed by Entreprises Boussiron's chief engineer, Nicolas Esquillan , who was promoted to technical director during the construction period, and built by the company between 1939 and 1943.

It is one of the only two Nielsen bridges in France.

history

The first bridge at this point was a privately financed suspension bridge built in 1839 . The bridge planned and built by Bayard de la Vingtrie stood a few meters upstream and crossed the Gave de Pau at a right angle, which is why the otherwise straight Route de Sorde-l'Abbaye had to make two small bends ( French: le Coude ). It was subject to tolls until 1866 , but was often criticized for lack of maintenance. In 1900 a local contractor carried out the reinforcements proposed by Ferdinand Arnodin . Among other things, the support cables were replaced with those developed by Arnodin multilayer lay ropes . The bridge then continued to operate until the current bridge was opened.
