Ponte Novu (French Ponte-Novo , Italian Ponte Nuovo ) is a village in northeast Corsica . It belongs to the municipality of Castello-di-Rostino in the Corte arrondissement of the Haute-Corse department . Ponte Novu is 167 m above sea level on the bridge of the RN 193 over the Golo on the Bastia - Corte route and has 50 inhabitants. In 1769 the battle of Ponte Novu took place here . In the village there is a museum dedicated to Pasquale Paoli , the leader of the Corsicans in this battle.
The old Ponte Novu bridge was destroyed in World War II and replaced by a new bridge structure. The people of Ponte Novu organize a memorial ceremony around the broken arch of the bridge on each anniversary of the battle.
Ponte Novu has a train station on the Bastia- Ajaccio line , which is served by the Chemins de fer de la Corse .
At Ponte Novu is the Village miniature de Carriolu with miniature editions of the island's most architecturally remarkable stone buildings.
