Pontypool
Pontypool ( Welsh Pont-y-pŵl ) is a town with about 36,485 inhabitants (2011) in the Welsh County Borough Torfaen ( Unitary Authority ) and is its administrative seat.
Urban development
The town is a former industrial town with a great tradition of coal mining and steel , as well as handicrafts using Japanese lacquer . After the Welsh industrial crisis, the city is slowly recovering and becoming a dormitory for neighboring Cwmbran (just under five miles south) and Newport (about 15 km south).
Town twinning
Pontypool's twin cities are Longjumeau in France and Bretten in Baden-Württemberg since 1994 and Condeixa-a-Nova in Portugal since 1999.
