Alfred Lawrence, 1st Baron Trevethin

Alfred Tristram Lawrence, 1st Baron Trevethin PC (born November 24, 1843 in Pontypool , † August 3, 1936 in Builth Wells ) was a British lawyer. He was Lord Chief Justice of England in 1921/22 .

Lawrence was the eldest son of surgeon David Lawrence and Elizabeth, daughter of Charles Morgan Williams. He studied at Trinity Hall College, University of Cambridge and was inducted into the Middle Temple , one of the four English bar associations, in 1869 . In 1897, Lawrence was appointed Crown Attorney . In 1904 he was appointed as a judge to the High Court of Justice and held that office until 1921 when he became Lord Chief Justice of England . In August 1921 he was a Baron Trevethin , of Blaengawney in the County of Monmouth , in the hereditary nobility raised. From the point of view of Prime Minister David Lloyd George, he was considered an interim solution and therefore resigned after a short term in office.

Lawrence married his cousin Jessie Elizabeth, daughter of George Lawrence, in 1875. They had five children and his third son was Geoffrey Lawrence, 1st Baron Oaksey . Lord Trevethin died at the age of 92 on August 3, 1936. Charles Trevor Lawrence inherited his title , after his death in 1959 the title passed to his third son.
