Igor Judge, Baron Judge

Igor Judge, Baron Judge PC QC (born May 19, 1941 in Malta ) is a British lawyer and former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales .

Life

Judge was born to Raymond and Rosa Judge , nee Micallef. He attended St. Edward's College in Cottonera from 1947 to 1954 and from 1954 to 1959 The Oratory School in Woodcote , Oxfordshire , where he was head boy and captain of the cricket team. He studied from 1959 at Magdalene College of Cambridge University and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts . He became a member of the Middle Temple Bar Association in 1963 .

He was appointed Crown Attorney in 1979, elected President of the Crown Court Midland Circuit in 1987 and appointed to the High Court of Justice (England and Wales) in 1988 . He became a judge on the Court of Appeal and a member of the Privy Council in 1996 .

In 2003 he became Deputy Lord Chief Justice. When Lord Chief Justice Harry Woolf retired in 2005, he was not his successor, but Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers . On July 7, 2008 it was announced that Judge would succeed Phillips of Worth Matravers as Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales on October 1, 2008. On October 1, 2013, Judge's career as Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales ended for reasons of age as required by law.

On September 4, 2008, Judge was promoted to peer . On October 1, 2008, he received the title of Baron Judge , of Draycote in the County of Warwickshire , and was inducted into the House of Lords .

In 2007 Lord Judge received an honorary doctorate from Nottingham Trent University .
