Hubert Parker, Baron Parker of Waddington

Hubert Lister Parker, Baron Parker of Waddington PC ( May 28, 1900 - September 15, 1972 ) was a British lawyer.

Life

Parker was the youngest son of Robert Parker, Baron Parker of Waddington , who was Lord of Appeal in Ordinary . He attended rugby school and Trinity College in Cambridge . He got a degree in geology and wanted to get into the oil business. He rejected this in 1922 and was admitted to the bar in 1924.

In 1954 he was appointed to the Court of Appeal (England and Wales) and was appointed Privy Councilor . In 1958 he became Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and remained so until 1971. On September 30th of the same year he became a life peer as Baron Parker of Waddington, of Waddington in the County of Yorkshire , this title has already been bestowed on his father . He supported the abolition of the death penalty in Britain.

In 1972, a year after his retirement, he died on the cattle ranch he and his wife had run for 48 years.
