Portraits of Andrea Palmer is an American film drama by the two directors C. Huston and Joe Rubin from 2018. The film contains elements of milieu study , hardcore porn , experimental and splatter films .

action

The film tells of the descent of the eponymous camgirl in seven chapters.

The White Mare : Camgirl Andrea Palmer has a nervous breakdown in front of the running webcam. Addicted to drugs, separated from the daughter who grows up with her sister, she doesn't know what to do next. So the offer from a stranger comes in handy to guide her to Los Angeles as a model .

The Funhouse : Arrived in Los Angeles, she is transferred by the stranger. On her own initiative, she looks for a job offer from a porn film director. She spontaneously took part in a porn movie, but the filmmaker refuses to pay her. Instead, he throws her out.

Sorrow of One Eye Jack : Finally arrived at the bottom of society, she hangs around on the drug line. There she meets a junkie who steals her last belongings after spending the night together. She turns to her drug dealer, who accompanies her home and now acts as her pimp. But already in the first act he insults her as a zombie because, according to one opinion, she does not show enough enthusiasm.

Where Girls Learn to Piss on Command : Andrea now serves several men as prostitutes for BDSM and pee games .

Fellowship of John : Andrea is booked by John for a full day. He's not after sex, but the two of them drive through town and later talk in a small park.

Pleasure Between Heaven and Hell : When she comes home, her drug dealer is waiting for her. He uses the knife to force her to have oral sex . Then he explains to her that she should come to the park tomorrow, where she should get two customers. She has suicidal thoughts and tries one last time to contact her daughter.

Everything Will Be Ok : In the same park where she talked to John, she meets her pimp who leads her to a warehouse. There she is brutally mistreated by the two suitors and used almost to the point of unconsciousness. When they finish, her pimp offers her $ 50. She snatches his knife from him, stabs him and then cuts open her own stomach.

background

The film was shot by Huston and Robin in Los Angeles and Michigan in 2017, and the film is intended as a kind of environmental study of the American porn industry. The film was shot on 16mm . In addition to an explicit split sequence, the film contains several real hardcore sex scenes, which, unlike porn, are not presented in a nice light, but rather dirty and disturbing. Sex is staged as an "ugly and destructive act" in the film.

Katrina Zova , who comes from the porn scene and was initially active there under the pseudonym "Katrina Kox", was cast in the title role . Zova, who suffered from serious personal problems, disappeared shortly after the shoot and is considered missing. She was not originally the first choice for the role, as one actress had already starred in a short C. Huston film but proved unreliable and had to be fired. Also from the porn scene comes William Margold , who has worked as a porn actor since the beginnings of the film genre. His role in the film is said to have come close to his real role in the film industry, he was considered a guardian angel and sponsor among his colleagues. So he founded the PAW Foundation, which campaigned for adequate retirement provision in the porn industry. At the same time he was president of the Free Speech Coalition for many years . His appearance in the film was his only portrayal outside the porn genre and at the same time his last role: Margold died on January 17, 2017 at the age of 73.

The independent film premiered on February 9, 2019 in New York and was released on Blu-Ray on July 30, 2019. A German version was published on January 31, 2020 via 8Films.

Reviews

Portraits of Andrea Palmer is a crude, direct, and nihilistic film about a woman who is merely trying to survive, according to Sean Leonard of Horrornews.net. He compared the film to other cross-border works like Baise-moi (Fuck me!) , Ken Park and Forced Entry . He also described the film as one of the few films that believably combines sex and horror and a bold film that does not shy away from disturbing its audience. On Schlockockmania! wrote the reviewer, the film exerts a raw attraction. You could tell the actors how committed they were to the project. In addition to the force of the film, he also criticized the narrative, which in many places seems implausible or omits important things. Some cinematic elements, such as the obvious dubbing, would also reduce the effect.
