William Margold 2011

William Margold (born October 2, 1943 in Washington, DC - † January 17, 2017 in Los Angeles ) was an American porn actor and director. He was also a porn industry activist and advocate for freedom of expression .

Life

William Margold was the son of Nathan Ross Margold , a lawyer who campaigned for Native American rights and wrote the Margold Report , a kind of blueprint for the NAACP . William Margold attended Hamilton High School in West Los Angeles and a degree in Journalism from California State University, Northridge . Before working in the porn industry, he worked as a probation officer .

He began to work in pornographic works as early as 1972, before the film Deep Throat (1973). At first he researched several articles about the beginning porn industry, but eventually found pleasure in it more and more. In his long career, which spanned more than four decades, he is said to have worked on more than 250 films, including many milestones and classics of the genre. He also appeared as a non-sex performer.

His only major role in a non-porn film was in Portraits of Andrea Palmer (2018), in which he starred shortly before his death. He was not only employed as a porn actor, but was also active as a director and producer. He also saw himself as an archivist and historian of the porn industry and appeared in numerous documentaries on the subject, including After Porn Ends (2012) and Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy about his colleague Ron Jeremy , whom he nicknamed " The Hedgehog ”is said to have missed.

He was also politically committed to the porn industry and the rights of its actors, which earned him the nickname "Papa Bear". He founded the PAW Foundation, which campaigned for a pension for porn actors and tried to protect the actors from exploitation. His demands included raising the age of the performers from 18 to 21, regular drug tests and a ban on escort services . He was also the former head of the Free Speech Coalition , a trade association for the porn industry, co-founder of the X-Rated Critics Organization and the Fans of X-Rated Entertainment (FOXE). He was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame for his numerous contributions .
