The China Floral ( Saxifraga × urbium ) is a hybrid of the genus saxifrage ( Saxifraga ) within the family of Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae). It is a cross between Saxifraga spathularis and shadow saxifrage ( Saxifraga umbrosa ). It is used as an ornamental plant as a ground cover , which also thrives in partial shade and shade. The trade name Saxifraga umbrosa is also often used in trade . used. Saxifraga umbrosa is native to the Pyrenees and Saxifraga spathularis from the British Isles. This hybrid originated in culture, nothing is known about the place of origin, there are reports from the 17th century.

Vegetative characteristics
The porcelain flower is a hardy, perennial herbaceous plant . It forms evergreen, light to dark green leaf rosettes 5 to 15 cm in diameter with relatively soft, toothed leaves. It reproduces mainly through runners and forms dense carpets relatively quickly .
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from May to summer. The flower stalks are about 20 cm, in the shade up to 40 cm high, reddish-brown and slightly hairy. The flowers are five-fold with ten stamens , the petals are small, white with colored dots from yellow to orange to magenta , which make the flowers appear pink from a distance, the pistil (carpelle) itself is pink. The flowers produce a lot of nectar and are therefore often visited by bees .

The porcelain flower is a popular ornamental plant as a border for rock gardens and borders. The term “London Pride” often causes confusion. This is actually the English name for Saxifraga umbrosa . In Germany, however, the hybrid of the shadow saxifrage is often referred to as “London Pride”.
