Posbank is the name of an approximately 90 meter high lookout point in the Dutch national park Veluwezoom , municipality of Rheden , province of Gelderland . On the hill there is a monument, the eponymous Posbank, and a tea house of the same name. This was destroyed in a fire in 1996 and rebuilt in 2002. The place is named after GA Pos, the former chairman of the General Dutch Cyclist Association (Dutch Algemene Nederlandse Wielrijdersbond , short ANWB).

geography

The viewpoint is one of the highest places in the national park. From here you have an overview of the IJssel valley , the city of Arnhem , the Achterhoek and the Liemers region all the way to Germany . It is located on the edge of the Herikhuizerveld heathland , which is usually referred to as Posbank in everyday parlance.

monument

The monument has the shape of a semicircular stone bench on a slightly raised pedestal, surrounded by a wall. In the middle there is a plaque in honor of the namesake GA Pos. The monument was designed by the architect Willem Leliman and unveiled on May 24, 1921 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Pos as the second chairman of the ANWB. A replica of the monument can be found in Sonsbeekpark in Arnhem.

Sports

The Posbank is popular with both hikers and cyclists. The Arnhem-Veenendaal Classic cycle race takes place once a year over the mountain. In 2016 , the third stage of the Giro d'Italia also passed here .
