Poseidon Rex is an American horror film from 2013. Director Mark L. Lester is best known for films such as The Class of 1984 , The Fire Devil and The Phantom Command .

On an island off the coast of Belize , the treasure hunter Jackson Slate starts a dive into the Great Blue Hole with some crooks, whose boss Tariq he owes money . There Slate suspects Aztec gold on board a sunken ship. When the divers detonate an explosive charge on the shipwreck, they bring a primeval monster to life. The monster, a kind of amphibious Tyrannosaurus Rex , kills everyone except Slate, who remains unconscious in the water.
A little later, the tourist couple Rod and Jane go snorkeling with the boatman Henry at the Great Blue Hole. There they find the lifeless Slate and bring him to the island, where they look after him together with marine biologist Sarah. When he came to, he told the group about the suspected gold treasure. All but Jane set out for the Blue Hole to look for it. On the way, they are stopped by the coast guard who will accompany them from now on. Members of the gang targeting Slate are killed by the dinosaur while trying to capture him. While diving in the Blue Hole, the group discovers dozens of dinosaur eggs on the ocean floor, of which Sarah takes one to her laboratory. They too are attacked by the monster Sarah identifies as Poseidon Rex. According to the biologist, this P-Rex lived in the Cretaceous Period and was the most dangerous predator that ever existed on earth. Meanwhile, Jane, who did not go on the dive, celebrates with other tourists on board a sailboat. This is sunk by Poseidon Rex, Jane and everyone else are killed.
Sarah and Slate meanwhile open the recovered dinosaur egg in the laboratory and free an aggressive youngster of the P-Rex, with which they can kill other members of the gang. Meanwhile, the P-Rex continues its raid on land. Sarah, Slate and Rod get a car to get to an abandoned US Army base on the island. The P-Rex follows them, but they can shake it off and reach the base. From there, Slate and Sarah can send a radio message. This alerts the US Army on the mainland, which is planning an air strike against the monster. At the last moment, Sarah and Slate manage to lure the P-Rex into the sea to prevent a complete bombing of the island. The P-Rex is killed, but the eggs remain intact on the seabed, from which the first hatchlings are already hatching.

On the Rotten Tomatoes website , of 123 reviews submitted for Poseidon Rex in October 2015, only 16 percent were positive, the average rating was 1.9 out of 5 stars. All three reviews submitted so far were marked as rotten ('rotten', i.e. negative).
On the gamona.de website, Rajko Burchardt comes to the conclusion that Poseidon Rex was based on a “great” idea, “but the film is so under all cannon that you can hardly stand it.” He describes Poseidon Rex as “voluntary Trash ”, which comes across as“ ugly-dreary ”and“ terribly boring ”.

Corin Nemec ( Parker Lewis - The Cool One at School ) was originally hired for the lead role of Jackson Slate . However, at the start of filming, there was an accident when a Belize Coast Guard boat carrying the film crew rammed into a shipwreck. Nemec suffered a complicated broken leg and lost so much blood that he could only be saved by several transfusions . Brian Krause ( Charmed ) then took on the role .
