The Post-Sportverein Nürnberg e. V. is a popular sports club from Nuremberg . With 18,500 members, who operate in 22 departments more than 100 sports, it is Bavaria's largest amateur sports club and is among the 35 largest membership sports clubs in Germany , behind the 1. FC Nuremberg .

history

The association was founded on November 18, 1926 and had over 600 members within a very short time. With the support of the Post Office , the club built a club house and associated sports facilities on the property acquired in 1928 in Ebensee, part of the Mögeldorf district of Nuremberg . The club also has its own indoor swimming pool , which was built in 1978 and expanded and modernized in 1996. From 1945 to 1950 the club was forcibly merged with SV Eintracht Nürnberg to form SV Eintracht Ebensee .

In 2013, TV 1860 Nürnberg Jahn-Schweinau was incorporated into Post SV . For example, the later club players and German soccer champions Paul Derbfuß , Wolfgang Strobel and Ludwig Wieder began their careers at its predecessor club, TV 1860 Schweinau . The old TV 1860 sports grounds in the Schweinau district of Nuremberg are also shown at the beginning of Matthias Hunger's novel Abseits der Kreisklasse . The club SG Noris Schweinau described there is purely fictional and has nothing to do with TV 1860 Nürnberg Jahn-Schweinau .

Post SV Nürnberg has been a partner of the Bavarian state support center for water polo since January 1, 2019.

Popular sport

From the 1950s the club systematically expanded its range of sports. In addition to classic offers such as football and handball or swimming , the club also had departments for gliding and equestrian sports . In the 1970s, the club expanded its range of sports activities within the gymnastics department to include non-competitive family sports.

successes

The roller skating department won the German championship in roller hockey in 1941 as well as several national individual titles. The handball players also played in the top division before the Second World War. The basketball seniors became German champions in 1991 and 1997 in the "Senior Women II" category.
